Field note № 24
Ordering tea in Seattle feels like a small protest.
The barista gave me a long look. The fog outside agreed.
London Fog is Earl Grey with steamed milk and a touch of vanilla, and it is, in this town, an act of mild civil disobedience. Around me: pour-overs, flat whites, a man explaining single-origin beans to his date. I sat by the window and held the cup with both hands. It was the right call.
Seattle does coffee very well. It also does rain. The two do not, contrary to local legend, require each other — but they do go together, and so does a London Fog at a sticky table on a Thursday afternoon while the rest of the city caffeinates around you.
